Kay Dee Powell
Born in the southern tip of Texas, Kay Dee Powell is a long way from her roots. A classroom teacher in California for thirty years, retirement brought a move to Blaine where she was awestruck by the pristine beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Finally there was time to satisfy her desire to paint. She began with watercolor, then acrylics, studying under local and national artists. Powell’s colorful paintings reflect her spirited enthusiasm and love of creation. She learned silk painting under international master silk artist, Karen Sistek and says painting with French dyes on silk is “like watercolor on steroids.”
A lifelong learner, Kay Dee loves trying new techniques and loves painting anything in nature. When asked what her particular style is, she responded, “Hmm, Color? Happy?”
Powell has been a presenter in art shows for several years. You can see her work displayed at establishments in Blaine, at her space in the Whatcom Art Market, or at Kay Dee’s Artistry on Facebook.
