A good photographer never stops learning and challenging themselves in their craft.  My first encounter with photography was prior to digital, beginning with black-and-white film-based images which I printed myself in a darkroom.  This has given me a true appreciation for the versatility and unbounded creative tools of digital photography.  With digital photography, understanding the science behind the tools creates a complementary relationship with the artistic side of photography and enables the enhancement of already-present digital “information.”

Since obtaining a certificate in photography at the North Georgia State University, I have continued to pursue new artistic image-based techniques, broadening my horizons as the tools of digital photography have progressed.  Along the way, I expanded my role in the world of photography to teaching, helping other photographers to engage in new ways of seeing and creating their own unique images.  While teaching classes for Whatcom Community College, the Academy of Lifelong Learning, numerous photography clubs across the U.S., and at annual conferences for the Northwest Council of Camera Clubs, the Photographic Society of America, and the Virtual Creative Photography Conference, my own work has continued to evolve. Believing in giving back to the community, I served four years as President of the Bellingham Photography Club and one year as VP of Publications and Managing Editor of the Photographic Society of America’s monthly worldwide magazine.  My own articles have been published in a variety of periodicals and my images have won several First Place and People’s Choice awards.

After moving to Bellingham in 2011, I found great satisfaction in the stunning array of wildlife, landscapes and plant life available to me for my photography.  Combined with my love of travel, my work has expanded to cover more elusive wildlife, street photography involving other cultures, macro photography, still life photography, and a variety of photographic techniques that require non-traditional creative lighting.  Our rainy weather has provided me with the time to learn new creative applications that take my images to the next level. My goal is to share with you the wonders of our world, both at home and beyond, through my images.
