Candice Christie
Candice’s work has definitely been inspired by her long life in Southeast Alaska; over sixty years of walking along beaches, up mountains or in the woods has fed her creative energies in a variety of ways.
Candice is always exploring and growing as an artist. She works with collage, mixed media and for the past 5 years has worked mainly with cold wax and oil. When slathered on with a palette knife, this medium has a buttery consistency, giving the ability to scratch and carve into the many layers showing the color and texture found beneath the surface. No matter what the medium Candice is using, intuitive choices are made throughout the painting process. Abstract compositions and the combination of the many layers used in her work, creates a depth and mystery that tends to engage the viewer to be part of the process.
Candice has been showing her work in Alaska since 1996. In 2001 she moved to the Bellingham area and reconnected with her families’ roots in Whatcom County. Candice joined several art organizations in Seattle, WA which has given her the opportunity to show her work in the Pacific Northwest. In 2015 and 2018, her collage paintings were accepted into juried shows at the Seattle Convention Center. Her work has won many awards and sold in the Puget Sound area through her membership in the NW Collage Society, the Whatcom Art Guild and as a juried member in Seattle Co-arts. Candice’s paintings have been purchased by corporations, international visitors, and to people across the United States, Canada and Alaska.
