Rockscholar Designs

Deb Mason – owner of Rockscholar Designs

I named my business in honor of my Daughter and all of her accomplishments.
I always had an interest in rocks and minerals. As my daughter grew, she too enjoyed going to local rock and mineral shows. We started to make jewelry when she was in Middle School. After getting her Masters in Geology at the University of New Mexico, she didn’t have time to make jewelry anymore but, I continued making Jewelry and in 2008, I opened a store where I welcomed artists dealing in all mediums. After 8 years, I sold the store because of health issues. I continued to make jewelry. Then in 2016, I fell and broke my neck in 3 places and crushed 4 vertebrae. During my year-long recovery, I continued making jewelry. It was my “therapy.” My son took Fisheries and Aquaculture in College. This led him to being a Manager at the 2nd largest Salmon Hatchery in North America. It was on a remote island, so when they welcomed a son, they moved to Washington state and he now is the Manager of 6 Hatcheries in Whatcom and Skagit Counties. My husband and I followed our Son and Daughter-in-Law and moved from Rochester NY to Sedro-Woolley. I am now a Grandma of two boys. My Daughter and I spend a week in Tucson, AZ every year going to as many Gem and Mineral shows there. I look for Beads and Stones and she looks for awesome specimens for her Collection. We just returned and I am excited to turn my finds into Jewelry. My Husband has been so supportive through all my health issues and of my love of making jewelry.
